"Turning Economic Doldrums into Opportunities" Presented by Mr. Donald Tong, Jr, Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs USA - Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office Hong Kong has long been a staunch support of free trade. At the beginning of 2010, Hong Kong was ranked by the Washington DC-based Heritage Foundation as the freest economy in the world for the 16th consecutive year. In this business luncheon, Mr. Donald Tong will update the Salem audience on Hong Kong’s latest development; measures to stimulate the economic performance amid the global economic turmoil; and the business opportunities in Hong Kong which make the City the best gateway to China. Knowing that the Mid Willamette Valley is famous for its wineries, Mr. Tong will also share with the audience on the Hong Kong Government’s latest initiatives to develop the City into a wine trading and distribution hub in Asia, which include the elimination of wine duty in February 2008, as well as other supportive measures such as facilitating the movement of wine into the Mainland China.
